Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the advantage of the special regime?
Employment income is taxed at a flat rate of 24% up to 600,000 euros and 47% on the excess, in the year residence is acquired and the following five years.
Who can apply?
Those who become tax resident in Spain as a result of their relocation and have not been resident in the previous five tax years, among other requirements.
Is there a deadline to apply?
Yes. The election must be made within a short period from the start of the activity in Spain. Once that period has passed, the regime is no longer available.
Is it always favourable?
No. Depending on the nature of your income and assets, the general regime may result in lower tax, so a prior comparison is essential.
Can it be extended to the family?
Under certain conditions, the regime can be extended to the spouse and to children under 25.
